New Website for the Scandinavian School of Brussels

We believe in the power of design to rouse passions and challenge assumptions. And we believe it is our duty to help civil society, governments and companies to craft a better tomorrow.

Background

The Scandinavian School of Brussels is a private school which follows the scandinavian curricula and offers their students a highly personal learning experience. The project was very close to our hearts, due to the fact that we appreciate and understand the value of a good education. Furthermore, the ‘Hogwarts’ like feel of the school premises made us wish we could go back to school for at least one day.

Challenges

The school needed a redesign of their website which would appeal more to the students, parents and teachers. The client understood from the very beginning our approach to make the website clean and functional, while in the same time express the uniqueness of the Scandinavian School of Brussels. We may say that we were lucky with the client, in terms of communication and shared goals.

Strategy

The school needed a redesign of their website which would appeal more to the students, parents and teachers. The client understood from the very beginning our approach to make the website clean and functional, while in the same time express the uniqueness of the Scandinavian School of Brussels. We may say that we were lucky with the client, in terms of communication and shared goals.

Strategy

The project kicked-off with a meeting with the client in which we discussed about the vision for the website, the design approach, structure and content. We also decided with the client on a timeline for the project, important milestones and future meetings.

In order to make sure that the whole creative and implementation process was in line with the clients’ needs and requirements, we had weekly meetings to discuss the latest developments. It was very important for us and the client to create a website which was appealing to its main target audience, namely the children of scandinavian expats in Brussels and their parents, but did not limit the access to the school for other prospective students.

Design Direction

In order to create an integrated look and feel for the website, that would appeal both to scandinavian students and other prospective ones, we decided that the best approach was to ‘show the product’ - the school is located in a very pittoresque area of Belgium, in the city of Waterloo, the whole school complex being placed in and around a chateau, which gives a ‘Hogwarts’ like feeling. We wanted to capture that feeling, putting an emphasis on large imaginary and seizing the essence of the students. This was translated into a clean, modern design that mirrors the written description of the school and its facilities with the visual representation of the experience and The Scandinavian School of Brussels.

Conclusion

The project just finished so it is too soon to have comprehensive quantitative data on the rebranding’s impact of the webpage. Until then, we have a very pleased client and a project that made the members of Penrose CDB reconnect with their school years.
